Senior Design Engineer – Fire Protection
My client, a large international Engineering company based in Saudi Arabia is currently looking For a Senior Design Engineer – Fire Protection for a two year renewable contract.

Position Summary:
• Shall have experience in the Oil/Gas, hydrocarbon, refinery, offshore or infrastructure Industries and is recognized as specialist in Mechanical Engineering Field on large to mega Projects.
• Shall Provide Technical and consultation as required.
• Must have thorough knowledge of all types of Fire protections.
• Capable of reviewing the Design drawings and documents, Equipment specifications / data sheets and materials of Fire protection equipments and components.
• Provide guidance to the project Fire protection Design Team.
• Resolves Fire protection engineering issues by applying accepted principles, codes and standards. Must have through knowledge and hands on Experience on NFPA and NACE standards
• To provide and support mechanical engineering activities for the clients HDP FEED / Detailed Design projects.
• Approving (as the Lead Engineer) all Fire protection deliverables.
• Planning, coordination & supervision of the production of Mechanical Deliverables as well as overall coordination for preparation of Deliverables list for proposals.
• Planning and scheduling of discipline deliverables and activities including man-hour estimating when requested, requesting personnel as identified by the plan, and supervision of Fire Protection personnel on the project.
• Reviews the Basis of Design (BOD) & Project Execution Plan (PEP) as well as all client provided data.
• Coordinating with all disciplines (as necessary) in the preparation and development of the deliverables and ensuring that other disciplines’ input is incorporated.
• Prepare equipment specifications, datasheets & VDRFs, whilst following all operational procedures (i.e. incorporating check & IDC comments).
• Performs preliminary/basic sizing of equipment to provide preliminary input to the MHDP, structural & layouts group.
• Ensures equipment compliance with package electrical, structural & instrument specifications, as well as applicable code requirements and national / international standards.
• Prepares enquiry requisitions in PDMC/Pacesetter.
• Evaluates bids & prepares technical bid evaluations & provides input to joint purchase recommendation.
• Prepares bid clarification questions and handles responses, and coordinates / chairs technical aspects of bid clarification meetings.
• Updates datasheets and specifications for purchase.
• Reviews all vendor data, solicits specific input from affected disciplines, and returns comments on ‘coded’ documents within the allocated timeframe.
• Reports on work status/problem areas/needs on a weekly basis.
• Liaison with and reporting to Management and Clients.

Responsibilities:
• May assist department manager in providing technical excellence and standards for the department
• Prepare work force staffing requirements and process schedules for projects.
• Assist in preparing the list of deliverables and estimation for the proposals.
• Routinely communicate with Client counterpart on project.
• Routinely report job progress status to the HOD and Project Manager.
• Supervise work of other Fire protection Engineers assigned to the jobs.
• Oversee / review AFDs, Floor Plans and Hydrant net work P&IDs and present to peers or clients.
• Oversee / review Process Equipment specifications and data sheets
• Prepare FEED/Conceptual/Detailed Design of all Fire Protection Systems for the Project.
• Prepare a Concept Note or a Design Philosophy for the Project
• Perform code analysis, investigate fire protection requirements.
• Prepare Technical Specification for all above listed fire protection systems.
• Prepare Hydraulic Calculations for all water based fire protection system including sprinkler systems, water spray systems, fire pump sizing, fire water network analysis, foam systems using Elite-FIRE, FHC-Canute, PIPENET Software and AFT FATHOM software.
• Prepare Construction Scope of work for the Project.
• Prepare Construction Specifications, Tender Document with relevant Data Sheets for the Project.
• Perform Technical Bid Evaluation for the Project.
• Perform Vendor drawings / Data Sheets / Hydraulic Calculations review and approval.
• Organize technical discussions between Client representatives and Contractors.
• Identify the technical requirements of coordinating with other disciplines and incorporating the same.
• Identify the technical requirements of interfacing with other services and incorporating the same on detailed drawings.
• Prepare Material Take Offs as per approved drawings.
• The Fire Protection Engineer shall be capable of the design of:
• Fire Water Network for Tank Farms, Bulk Plants, Refineries, petrochemical plants etc.
• Fire water pumping systems including fire water pumps, storage tanks etc.
• Water Spray Systems for all applications including, spheres, above ground vessels, transformers, storage tanks, flammable and combustible pumps etc.
• Sprinkler systems (Wet, Dry and Pre-Action)
• Fixed foam systems for product pumps, product tanks etc.
• Clean Agent systems.

Required experience / Qualifications:
• Minimum of 10 years relevant design experience.
• Professional Engineering registration (USA) or Chartered Engineer (UK) status.
• B. Sc in Mechanical Engineering
• Lifting and carrying things offshore
